Originating from the tale of The Fair Maid of Galloway, Margaret Douglas, who inherited Balvenie Castle. The Castle was taken away from her, due to a rebellion toward the Stewart King from the Douglasses. However, the King was so blown away by Margaret's beauty he returned Balvenie Castle to her for the annual payment of a single Red Rose.
